Apple's Mac OS X Lion went on sale as a Mac App Store download yesterday for the nifty price of $29. For those who are disinclined to download a 4GB file, however, Apple will soon offer its latest operating system on a thumb drive.
The device will go on sale in late August for $69 in the Apple Store and online via apple.com.
The $69 price tag is a bit steep when compared to the $29 download, but the option of a physical medium is a saving grace for those who don't have a broadband connection. Buyers with speed issues who don't want to wait can also visit an Apple Store, where an employee will install it in-house.
The simplest way is get Lion, however, is via a direct upgrade from Snow Leopard, provided you're running version OS X 10.6.8. Users also need the recently released Migration Assistant Update for Snow Leopard, which provides enhancements that will ensure a smooth transition to Lion.
The OS will also come pre-loaded on the new MacBooks Airs and Mac minis unveiled yesterday. For more, see PCMag's Mac mini unboxing and MacBook Air unboxing, and be sure to check back later for full reviews of the new devices.
